As you drink soda, your tooth enamel becomes worn down and softened from all of the sugar and acidic particles in the beverage. When the enamel softens, tooth decay forms and destroys your smile. This is something that should be avoided at all costs. So, to help you protect and save your smile, we strongly recommend doing the following things:
· Substitute soda with healthier drinks: Try replacing soda with a healthier option that contains less sugar. Some options include milk, sugar-free drinks, and 100 percent fruit juices. Although diet soda might seem like a better option, it still contains elements that can decay your smile, so try to avoid drinking them.
· Rinse your mouth with water: Rinsing your mouth with water will help wash your smile after you have consumed a sugary drink. The water will gently glide over your teeth and rinse away any harmful particles that are clinging to your smile.
· Properly clean your smile: Oral hygiene is extremely important, especially when you are trying to protect your smile from tooth decay. So, make sure you brush your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Also, floss once a day and rinse your mouth with fluoride mouthwash daily.
· Use professional fluoride treatments: Professional fluoride treatments are beneficial because they give your smile the minerals it needs in a short amount of time. The treatments are provided at the dental office and they generally come in the form of a gel, varnish, or foam.
