What’s the difference between an amalgam filling and a composite one?
Amalgam is composed of a mixture of metals, including silver, mercury, tin, copper, and other trace metals. Dental amalgam has been used in dental fillings for over 100 years, and is still in use today by many dentists.
Composite fillings are a mercury-free alternative to amalgam fillings. Composite dental fillings are often a more aesthetic choice for your smile; while amalgam dental fillings are silver in color, composite fillings are tooth colored and can be matched to blend in with your smile’s natural appearance.
At our office, we are dedicated to helping you choose the best option for your dental health. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about amalgam or composite fillings – Give us a call today!
